iPhone and LenzO Combine to Capture Colors of the Reef

I landed from a red eye flight arriving in Grenada for breakfast. Marine Biologist Christine Finney from Eco Dive Grenada got us right out for two dives in the afternoon visiting the underwater Sculpture Park and Flamingo Bay. Both sites reside in the marine preservation area and as a result are very “fishy.” I experimented with the Lenzo housing for the iPhone and got surprisingly good results! Beaumont Hamel, July 1, 1916

It may be a joyous Canada Day for some but others recall the tremendous sacrifices made by the Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont Hamel on July 1, 1916. Heritage Canada has a lengthy post that recognizes the first day of the Battle of the Somme, when most of the regiment was killed. The attack was a huge failure. That morning, almost 20,000 British troops died, and another 37,000 were wounded. The Newfoundland Regiment had been almost wiped out. When roll call was taken, only 68 men answered their names – 324 were killed, or missing and presumed dead, and 386 were wounded.

#ExpeditionGrenada Begins!

Happy Canada Day! I’ll be spending the holiday in the air flying from Toronto, connecting through Trinidad and Tobago and will arrive at dawn to prepare for immediate diving in the warm waters of Grenada. Grenada lies in the south end of the Caribbean Sea just northwest of Trinidad and Tobago and northeast of Venezuela. The “Island of Spice” is famous for nutmeg and mace crops, but we’re heading there for adventure diving and beautiful turquoise water. Solid State Oxygen Sensors

Ask a rebreather diver what drives their rebreather and they will undoubtedly tell you, the oxygen sensors. These annually disposable devices are critical to creating a safe breathing loop and yet when not functioning properly can reduce a $10,000 investment in life support to a useless hulk of unusable equipment. Oxygen sensors are a crucial component, informing the rebreather control systems about the partial pressure of oxygen within the breathing loop.
