Unemployment can be difficult in the east. Finding good trade work can be a lifesaver. The Community College of New Brunswick offers a two-year program that is the first of its kind in the Maritimes. Their goal is to train skilled mining technologists, offering them a background in geology, survey, safety and commissioning. Graduates travel all over Canada to fill positions at mines that are crying for skilled labor. We spent some time with first-year students on a rocky shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. They were learning to identify rocks and hone their survey skills. We stopped for a photo opportunity on a sunny morning with their instructor Caroline Richer.
