I had the honor of being a guest host of the Annual DragorLux Underwater Games in Croatia. I was invited by DragorLux and Suunto to speak to divers about my exploration experiences. I always try to take the opportunity to share a little bit of the We Are Water mission. In addition to several speaking gigs, I managed to give away a number of We Are Water DVDs to divers, archaeologists and a ranger at the National Park in Plitvicke Lakes.
Journalist Tarquin Cooper interviews Jill for Redbull. Diving inside underwater caves would be most people’s idea of hell. For Jill Heinerth, it’s heaven. Canadian underwater explorer Jill Heinerth has dived in some of the most extreme locations on planet earth, from underwater caves to icebergs in the frigid waters off Antarctica. But she’s not in it for the kicks but to bring back valuable knowledge of our fresh water systems. See images and read more.
No Flow Toilets In North America, we spend a lot of money to purify water to drinking water standards in order to flush it back down the toilet. It is an incredibly costly and wasteful endeavor and is one of the largest uses of water in our households. I could not helped but be intrigued and inspired by this challenge put out by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It’s a solution that allows for waterless toilets that additionally recycle human waste.

We all know that a world that is short of water is a world filled with conflict. Here are four things you can do to increase global security. CONSERVE – By conserving water locally, you’ll help globally. BUY A WELL – Many charities support well drilling in needy communities. By supporting a well, you will save women and children who use their time to fetch water on dangerous roads rather than going to school. GET ENGAGED…
WE SHARE MORE THAN DIVIDES US I have to take every opportunity possible to extend the message of We Are Water. That usually means trying to piggy back the message on other speaking opportunities. I was invited to a diving conference in Slovenia and spoke about tech diving issues, but also had the chance to display a We Are Water art installation and also speak to the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor. I gave him a copy of We Are Water as we exchanged an understanding of water related issues that our respective countries face. What an opportunity!
I think I said, “you can knock me over with a feather!” when I was called to the stage in Australia to accept the Oztek Media Excellence Award. It recognizes significant contributions to technical and exploration diving and especially highlights the work of the We Are Water Project. I showed the full film in Sydney and had a wonderful response from the crowd. A fantastic and memorable weekend!
